Mangalore Mahem

Loard Rama-The truth
Rama is made up of 'Ra' + 'ama' which means light coming from within. The legend of Rama is deeply influential and popular in the societies of the Indian subcontinent and across South East Asia. Rama is revered for his unending compassion, courage and devotion to religious values and duty. For centuries, generation after generation of India has learned ethos from character of Lord Ram.
Rama is the underlying sentiment that informs the beliefs, customs, or practices of Indian society. Dominant assumptions of a society or period changes with due course of time, but name Rama is immortal for an Indian.
I was shocked and taken aback by what happened in Mangalore. I have seen so called moral elements changing into dramatic news event. Call it as race for TRP or power politics; you can see it all on TV these days. But what actually prolongs the existence of such kind of heinous crime, what causes such accidents to be remembered for a long time and why as time passes, we tend to forget it and why we cannot forget Rama.
As an engineer, I can relate it with fire. Let me explain it in a very simple fire triangle. To perpetuate a fire, you need three vital elements. Fuel, air and an igniter. Considering Mangalore incident, we can very well associate these three elements with forces in society. Considering fuel as discoloration of Indian culture, air as political and commercial motives of some fringe elements and Igniter as what exactly happened at that place before this incident.
Let me first have a consensus on our cultural belief, do you cherish Indian culture and are as proud as your mother about teachings of Ramayan, or are you a little bit familiar with our cultural duties. Some time I tend to ask myself a question, what exactly freedom is all about. Mahatma Gandhi said, “ Freedom is to allow to commit mistakes, sometimes I feel dismayed thinking that how can educated societies and literate people allow ideals and ideologies to be pushed down the throat of people”.
So am I allowed to commit mistakes or am I not allowed to push my idea. As an independent citizen, I am allowed to do whatever I feel like doing till it abides by the law of Indian constitution.
So am I suppose to harm my self intellectually and physically clinging to the pillar of rights provided by my constitution forgetting about my duties.
Can any one address my question; how are Pubs beneficial for cultural development of India?
How many of us can back this idea that kids under the age of 21 shall be allowed in pubs.
We can very well shut down dance bars in Mumbai and snatch livelihood of hundreds of women and force them into ugly never ending path of prostitution but we can not teach our young generation to have a healthy intellectual growth.
As a human tendency we seek stimulus, be it of any kind, alcohol, sex, graphic, junk food, etc.
Can some one give me an example of a strong individual who has earned name for his country spending his most of time sitting in front of his computer screen watching pornographic movies or getting tipsy in pubs.
Do not assimilate purity and hard work with pseudo intellectualism.
Did any one of these, sachin, sourav, vivekanand, vishwanathan anand, team of scientist of chandrayan one and many more; earned fame while spending their Saturday nights at pubs.
Once again, I ask you, which is beneficial for growth of Indian culture; a pub or a coffee joint.
Ram is termed as maryada purshottam; literally the Perfect Man or Lord of Restrictions. People who carried out attack on women in Mangalore violated the first chord of Maryada, molesting a woman is an ugliest act a man can do. Thus they broke the first chord of teaching of Ramayana.
But what sponsored this act in Mangalore. It was the political and commercial motive of some pervert people.
Is this just a mere coincidence that national as well as local media was available right on time when this act was carried out? Could you digest it so easily.
We have to ask ourselves this question; political parties flourish on our fear, they induce it into our nerves and make us accept that how small we are in comparison to the might of system and support they have.
Equate this incidence with what happened in Nasik by MNS hooligans and you will get your answers. Media was available right on spot and as always police was to late to react, thus giving ample fodder for our stimulus hungry brain cells; creating diverse belief; a section of society will be dismayed and other will be jovial and both the thoughts are vote banks for two major political parties of our great nation.
Third element is the Igniter, an AAM ADMI in India after getting tired from his day-to-day struggle wants to vent out his feelings. Lack of education and misbelieves acts as an igniter. This is what is happening with Taliban, lack of active participation in some useful constructive challenges and serious lack of basic humane education. We have a small Taliban in our country also, some time it is MNS and more often it is Ram sena, VHP, RSS etc.

How to avoid such kind of incidences in future, that is what you have to tell me, I will give you a hint, remove any one of the three elements and there will be no fire.
Thanks for replies.

  1. Ummm !!! About what happened in Mangalore; It is deplorable. And I personally know some of the people who would have had some link with the Ram Sena which is probably a splinter group of a very active Bajrang Dal.

Coming to TRP's and journalism or rather Sensationalism. I would like to quote Mr Ashok Mahadevan who I had interviewed for my college Magazine 5 years ago.

I asked him then, mind you sensationalism was just creeping its head here and there then.

Me: Today, Newspapers will have Salman's drunken brawl or Aishwarya's accident on the first page rather than the real important news which really matter and can change our lives ??

A.M: It depends on the publication. The day before USA Today, a popular American publication was to be launched, two major events took place. One was Grace Kelly's death and the assassination the President of Lebanon. Both stories were equally important . The proprieter of USA Today went to several bars , no one was talking about President's assassination. It was Grace Kelly at center stage. USA today had GRACE KELLY as its first page for its first issue.

SO that answers two questions - sensationalism and the importance of pubs. Now you will ask me PUBS!!!!. Pubs coffee shops Gobi stalls, People sit there to make conversations. Mind you a lot of modern day enterpreunership came out of chai stalls.

Now that leaves us with two more stand offs - Obscenity and moral policing. Well we are the creaters of Kamasutra and 64 moves and we talk abt public nudity and voyeurism . Pity that. A woman definitely has her right to express herself. I mean if she wants to walk nude she can. After all, If you see a good looking chick you are going to mentally undress her anyways. Where is the moral policing and cultural values at that time. Disappeared huh !!!!
Show me one holy scripture which says nudity or exposing your skin is wrong. The Bible and The Kuran say that adultery is wrong but none of them have anything to say on the exposure and its limits. In fact I believe all the neo culturalists and weak down there and cannot control their bloody libido that they come out with such fancy ideas.
